FAYETTE COUNTY (KWWL) - A dog that fell down a well in Fayette County on Wednesday has been safely rescued -- and now officials are searching for its owner.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was called to 12628 50th Street northeast of Oelwein on Wednesday morning for a dog that had fallen into a well.

Deputies requested assistance from the Oelwein Fire Department. The fire department lowered a firefighter into the well, got the dog into a portable kennel, and lifted it to safety.

The property owners did not know the dog, so it was taken to the Oelwein Veterinarian Clinic to be house.
