ISU's Gadson eyes national title

Posted: Updated:
AMES (KWWL) -  Kyven Gadson has one final shot at his ultimate goal. After finishing 6th and 8th at the NCAA wrestling tournament the past 2 seasons, Gadson is locked in on standing on top of the podium.

The former Waterloo East stand-out has put in the work in the wrestling room, and it's paying off. Gadson won the 197 pound title recently at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, beating top ranked Scott Schiller of Minnesota in the finals. That's propelled him to take over the top spot in the weight class.

"I definitely have to stay focused," says the Cyclone senior, "I think that's something in the past that has maybe stopped me from reaching my goals of becoming a national champ, so just this year it was more about mental focus, locking in, and staying in the present."

Gadson's started off his final season 14-0.
