NORTH LIBERTY (KWWL) - A North Liberty man was arrested after police say he poured gasoline on himself, began flicking a lighter and threatened to harm his family on Monday.

Fernando Maldonado, 38 -- who also goes by Javier T. Martinez with an age of 44 -- was arrested Tuesday after being released from the hospital and charged with first-degree arson, domestic abuse assault with display or use of weapon and two counts of child endangerment.

North Liberty Police were called to a residence on Golfview Court in North Liberty around 9:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15.

They say Maldonado had poured gasoline on himself, threatened to light himself on fire, flicked a lighter and threatened to harm his family at that residence.

Maldonado was transported to a hospital for the ingestion of gasoline and released Tuesday. No other injuries were reported.
