CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A community-wide open house is scheduled to discuss the flood control system in Cedar Rapids.

The city plans to hold the meeting Thursday, Dec. 18, to collect public input and share information about the system and talk with residents on both the west and east sides of the river.

The open house is all part of the city's ongoing efforts to facilitate a public dialogue on the flood control system.

City staff and professional engineering firms HR Green and Stanley will be available to hear resident feedback and help answer questions or concerns.

There will be maps and visual aids to help illustrate the preliminary flood alignment options on the west side of the river, as well as alignment configurations provided by the Army Corps of Engineers for the east side.

Examples of aesthetic treatments and renderings will also be available to help visualize potential physical elements of the flood system on both sides of the river.

Additional open houses will be held in March and June 2015, moving toward a full plan by June 2015.

The meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the City Services Center, located 500 15th Avenue SW, in Time Check Hall.
