Salvation Army receives 4th Gold Coin with a note

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - The Salvation Army received their fourth gold coin of the year on Monday, Dec. 15.

It was dropped in the Red Kettle located at the College Square Hy-Vee in Cedar Falls.

The accompanying note read, “On the 4th Day of Christmas: I give to the Salvation Army for the spirit of your volunteers.”

The Salvation Army relies on the donation of time and talent in the form of volunteerism to affect lasting change in the Cedar Valley.

In 2013, a total of 25,134 volunteer hours were given to The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls.

If the Salvation Army had to pay for this time, it would have cost over half a million dollars, $526,054.62 to be exact.

The Salvation Army has a place for all desiring to serve their community. Those interested in volunteering can contact Rikki at 319-235-9358.

They are not yet even 50% to our goal. The Red Kettle campaign accounts for 40% of the annual operating budget of The Salvation Army.

Monetary gifts now assist families throughout the entire year. The Salvation Army asks for the Cedar Valley's help in reaching our goal so that we may continue to be a beacon of hope for all in need.
