WINNESHIEK COUNTY (KWWL) - Winneshiek County Sheriff's deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident around 5:30 p.m. Saturday on Highway 24, south of Fort Atkinson.

They say the vehicle was traveling slowly southbound on Highway 24 due to heavy fog and wet road conditions. The driver was using the white highway marker, or fog line, as a guide while driving.

The driver followed the fog line, then began to brake sharply anticipating a sharp turn on the road ahead.

Police say the vehicle went off the roadway into the northwest ditch and struck the embankment before coming to rest on its tires.

The driver, Jeff Haler, and passenger, Julie Haler, both of Waterloo, were transported to the Winneshiek Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
