Three runaways steal car, lead authorities on chase

BUCHANAN COUNTY (KWWL) - According to the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, three male juveniles stole a car and led authorities on a chase Saturday night.

A little after 7 p.m., the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office was informed by Four Oaks staff that three male juveniles ran from the facility in Independence.

Shortly thereafter, at roughly 8:20 p.m., authorities received a report from Four Oaks that the three juveniles were found in a dark-colored SUV at Casey's General Store located near Highway 20 and Highway 150 in Independence.

The vehicle was found to be stolen from a residence in Independence.

The vehicle then fled the Casey's, and sped off westbound on Highway 20. A pursuit was initiated on Highway 20 westbound from Highway 150.

The chase turned southbound on I-380 in Black Hawk County, and ended at I-380 and Highway 150 in Benton County, when the vehicle rolled into the ditch.

The three juveniles were transported to a hospital in Cedar Rapids with non-life threatening injuries.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office says numerous charges are pending and the incident remains under investigation.
