A western Iowa hunter was injured after he was hit by a shotgun slug while deer hunting Saturday.

The Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources says 47-year-old Eric Winker was part of a hunting group, helping drive deer when another hunter's shotgun slug hit him in the abdomen.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. southwest of Lanesboro in Carroll County.

Winker was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital for treatment.

His condition has not been released.

The incident is still under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
