BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) -
A man has been charged with vehicular homicide in a crash that happened in Black Hawk County, Oct. 25.
Joshua Dunt, 29, was driving when he hit Warren VanWie, 20, is his vehicle. VanWie died from his injuries in the crash.
Thursday, Dunt was charged in VanWie's death. Friends of VanWie said the charge doesn't necessarily bring closure, but it does bring a sense of justice.
"Prayers were answered after such a long time," Mackensie Lambert said.
Lambert knew VanWie for several years. She said the loss will always be difficult to cope with, and nothing can bring her friend back.
"There's not going to be a son anymore, or a brother, or a friend. If you're driving under the influence of anything, don't get behind the wheel... You can hurt people, you can take people," Lambert said.
Lambert said the charge doesn't change things, but after weeks of unanswered questions, she said the charge in the case shows justice being served.
Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson said Dunt was under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the crash, but doesn't know if Dunt was prescribed to them.
KWWL also found Dunt has had 14 traffic-related offenses throughout the last 12 years. Dunt also hit a RAGBRAI rider in 2010, causing injury to the bicyclist's shoulder and leg.
