Charges filed in Fayette Co. horse neglect case

Posted: Updated:
ARLINGTON (KWWL) - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is filing charges against two rural Arlington residents in connection to the seizure of several malnourished horses from their farm.

Duane Landis, 50, and Margaret Landis, 49, were charged on Friday with livestock neglect and failure to dispose of dead bodies (animal carcasses). Both charges are simple misdemeanors.

In October, authorities were given a tip that there were several poorly-treated horses at their farm.

When deputies arrived on Oct. 9, they say they found five "very thin and malnourished" horses.

Along with the thin horses, deputies report finding animal carcasses on the property.

The Sheriff's Office says they worked with the Landis family to be sure the animal carcasses were disposed of properly.
