Gang participation suspected following Iowa City crime spree

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Iowa City police say three men have been arrested following a Dec. 4 crime spree, and they're all facing several charges, including criminal gang participation.

Here's a list of the crimes police responded to on Dec. 4, which had similar suspect descriptions:

    -6:13 p.m.: A man knocks on the door of a residence on the 300 block of East College Street and points a gun at a resident.

    -6:19 p.m.: A male victim reports three people demanded his wallet while pointing a gun at him in the 200 block of South Dubuque Street.

    -7:34 p.m.: A car is stolen but the driver and two passengers run away after crashing the car into a  parked vehicle.

    -8:04 p.m.: A purse is stolen out of a car at 804 Iowa Ave.

    -8:17 p.m.: A man says he was attacked by three people, forced to  the ground, with handguns pointed at his head.

Using surveillance footage, photo line-ups, witness statements and reports, Mozell McKee, Cordarro Pearson, and Xavier Wright were named as suspects.

On Dec. 11,  search warrants were served and several stolen items were found.

Now the three are facing several charges.

McKee was charged with theft in the second degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, burglary in the third degree with a motor vehicle, robbery in the first degree, assault with a dangerous weapon, criminal gang participation and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pearson was charged with theft in the second degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, burglary in the third degree with a motor vehicle, criminal gang participation and robbery in the first degree.

Wright was charged with theft in the second degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, burglary in the third degree with a motor vehicle, criminal gang participation, robbery in the first degree and possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
