JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

A Johnson County man faces charges after allegedly forging checks stolen from an area church worth almost $1,000.

According to online court documents, 24-year-old Jerrell Clemons cashed two checks at the Veridian Credit Union inside an Iowa City Hy-Vee.

Clemons allegedly forged signatures to write checks to himself in September for $645 and $350.

The court documents said the checks were stolen from an office at the Church of the Nazarene.

Clemons is charged with forgery and third-degree theft.
