IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

A University of Iowa football player has been honored with a national trophy.

Iowa Hawkeye senior left tackle Brandon Scherff has won the Outland Trophy, the nation's top honor for an interior lineman.

He's the fourth Hawkeye to receive the Outland, according to the University. Other finalists include Texas defensive tackle Malcom Brown and Auburn center Reese Diskmukes, according to ESPN.

Scherff is acknowledged by many as one of the hardest working players the team's had in many years. He played quarterback in high school, and then moved to the line at Iowa.

Scherff has also been previously named the Big 10's top lineman, and has twice been named a first-team all-league choice.
