Iowa ranked as most affordable state to live in

Posted: Updated:

A study done by a California-based real estate blog determines that Iowa is the most affordable state to live in.

Movoto took into consideration things like the 2010 Census and affordability criteria to determine which states are the best for people on a budget.

The criteria included: adjusted income, cost of food index, cost of utilities, miscellaneous cost of living index, median home price, and unemployment rate.

The top ten list is as follows:

1. Iowa
2. Oklahoma
3. Kansas
4. Nebraska (tied)
4. Texas (tied)
6. Indiana
7. West Virginia
8. Arkansas (tied)
8. Kentucky (tied)
10. Louisiana

Movoto says that Iowa came out on top because it has the 6th-highest income, 7th-most inexpensive housing, and the 4th-lowest unemployment numbers.

They say that California is the most expensive state, especially for those living in San Francisco.
