Wisconsin church: Have a beer on us

Posted: Updated:
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (KWWL) - Just like Jesus is said to have turned water into wine, a new church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is hoping to turn free beers into new churchgoers.

The church, called Renew Covenant Church, is hosting events at a local bar, trying to get to know the community, according to our sister station, WQOW.

"It might cause tension for a church to have an event in a bar, but as Jesus did his ministry, he went out to the places that others thought that maybe he shouldn't be or places he shouldn't go," said Pastor Jamie Staples.

Staples wants to get on the same level as the people they're trying to have become members of the church.

At this point, the congregation is meeting in Eau Claire's South Middle School Auditorium, but they're hoping to get a more permanent location soon.

The church plans on only buying one beer per person, but they don't have a set amount they'll spend on tap beer.
