CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - On Tuesday, Dec. 16, a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place to honor the recently named the City of Marion as an official Blue Zones Worksite.

The ceremony will be at 3:30 p.m. at Marion City Hall, 1226 6th Avenue in Marion.

Blue Zones Worksites maintain work environments that promote and encourage employee well-being.

These worksites commit to actions that will improve the physical health, social health and emotional relationships of employees.

The City of Marion achieved designation by completing criteria in the areas of leadership, purpose, habitat and physical environment, engagement and creation of social networks, policies and benefits, and well-being solutions.

As one of Marion's major employers, more than 50 percent of the City's 170 full-time employees took a pledge and completed an action on www.bluezonesproject.com.

The City has an active Well-Being Committee, is a tobacco-free worksite and encourages healthy food and beverage options in vending machines.

Marion is among the first 10 workplaces in Marion to achieve designation.

“The City hopes to guide and inspire its employees and their families to live healthier and more meaningful lives,” said City Manager Lon Pluckhahn.

“Achieving worksite designation shows the City's commitment to making healthy choices easier and brings us one step closer to achieving community designation.”
