Waterloo elementary schools will benefit from a federal grant awarded to a University of Northern Iowa faculty member.

UNI Professor Jody Stone was awarded a three-year Math-Science Partnership federal grant through the Iowa Department of Education for her project “eSTEM Waterloo”.

Stone and her team developed new science units for grades three through five in Waterloo elementary schools. The units are currently being field-tested and revised in Lowell, Cunningham, Kittrell and Kingsley elementary schools.

During the second and third years of the program, 52 Waterloo teachers will receive additional professional advice in implementing the new curriculum. This training will help district teachers continue to teach this program once the grand funding ends.
