DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

An errant shot, most likely from a hunter, struck and shattered a window of Truck Country yesterday in Dubuque, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Police responded around 5 p.m. last night to shots fired into the local business.

They found a .45 caliber slug that had shattered the window, hit a board and fell to the floor.

Nathan Johnson, a conservation officer with the DNR, took over the investigation last night.  He said he thinks the shot was fired in a field across the highway--about 500-600 yards away.

Johnson reached out to the property owners today and found out who had permission to be hunting on their land, he said.  He'll meet with those hunters late Tuesday.

If they were responsible, Johnson said they could face charges for firing across a highway and reckless discharge of a weapon that resulted in property damage

Johnson added he hoped to have the investigation wrapped up by Wednesday.
