CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Coe College students literally took the street this afternoon to protest what they call racial injustice.

According to Coe College's official Twitter page, students were laying in the traveled portion of College Drive.

Coe College says it was a peaceful demonstration. Protestors held signs in support of Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department says about 50-60 students laid on College Drive NE for less than five minutes.

Officers blocked off the street to ensure that no one was injured. They say it was a peaceful and orderly protest.

A candlelight vigil is planned for 5:45 p.m. Tuesday on campus.
