New homeless shelter for women, kids opens in Mason City

Posted: Updated:
MASON CITY (AP) - Women and children will soon be able to move into a new homeless shelter in Mason City.

Employees and volunteers were putting finishing touches at the New Beginnings House of Hope by cleaning cabinets and vacuuming floors last week, the Mason City Globe Gazette reports

People can move in as early as Tuesday at the former real estate office.

Director Jeannie Kingery for homeless shelters under Northern Lights Alliance for the Homeless says the new building offers more space, better security and comfort for clients.

It can house up to 26 women and children, nearly twice the occupancy of the former building.
