CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (KWWL) - There's a good chance you've already seen some of Tim Dodd's work.  Now, the Cedar Falls photographer is looking to the stars.

Dodd was in Cape Canaveral, Florida this morning to capture the launch of the Orion.  The space mission is hoped to someday lead to human exploration of Mars.

For the shoot, Dodd used 4 remote cameras on and near the launch pad, and three additional cameras further away.  So how do you take the pictures?  In an email Dodd says, "They are sound trigger since no one can be within a few miles. At the actual launch I was next to 'The beach house' which is where the astronauts used to hang out before launches with their families."

The shoot didn't come without some challenges:

"Yesterday's scrub was a real bummer as it was such an insanely beautiful morning. Today was more overcast so a lot of our settings were wrong on our cameras. It was so rewarding when it finally did go off. It was just incredible. You could feel the thing take off, although I was so caught up in my work, I almost didn't take it all in."

Tim first made national headlines with his pictures documenting the recovery and relationship of injured sailor Taylor Morris with his longtime girlfriend Danielle Kelly.  The photos were featured on network television, and also featured on popular internet websites.  Dodd also captured internet fame this year with a creative picture series called "Everyday Astronaut."
