A water main break drains a city's water tower forcing people to play it safe all weekend.

A 10-inch main broke overnight in Tama and it drained the water tower.

It happened near 13th Street and Business Highway 30. That's on the edge of town.

As crews start digging, trying to figure out what happened and make repairs, people are being told they need to boil their water to be safe. The city will have to do at least two rounds of testing which means the order could be in place until at least Sunday.

Not only is there an order in effect in Tama, there are five customers who were left without any water at all. Those five are all near where the break happened and two are cattle farmers.

One upside is the weather. Many times, these breaks happen during a deep freeze which forces crews to make the repairs in some of the worst conditions, but Friday's weather wasn't that bad, all things considered.
