Waterloo Area Salvation Army 75% from Red Kettle campaign goal

Posted: Updated:

The Waterloo/Cedar Falls Salvation Army says it is about a quarter of the way to its Christmas fundraising goal of $727,000. The organization is announcing several ways for you to get involved to help them get the remaining 75% of the goal.

Saturday, December 6 is Union Ring Day when many local union members will be ringing bells at many kettle locations throughout Waterloo and Cedar Falls including College Square Hy-Vee. Union kettles will be specifically marked.

Saturday is also the Fill the Truck Day at Walmart stores in both Waterloo and Cedar Falls. Throughout the day, you can donate a new toy or coat that will go to a Cedar Valley child on Christmas morning. The Salvation Army has nearly 900 families registered for Christmas assistance, so all items donated on Saturday will be given out through The Salvation Army's Christmas Toy Shop.

They also want to remind you of the KWWL Metal in the Kettle challenge, where anchors Ron Steele, Amanda Goodman, Jerry Gallagher and Teal Jennings are competing to see who can raise the most money.

Fareway stores are also giving you the chance to help feed a family through the "Shielding the Hungry the Fareway" food drive. Customers can buy bags of pre-packaged nonperishable foods for $15.99 at stores in Cedar Falls, Evansdale, Waterloo and Waverly. The Salvation Army is collecting the bags from each Fareway store on a regular basis.
