Singer Cher takes aim at pig crates, Branstad responds

Posted: Updated:
Pop star Cher is attacking New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie -- and Iowa farmers -- on Twitter, and Gov. Terry Branstad has responded.

The debate is about a New Jersey bill that would ban gestational crates for pigs in New Jersey.

Gov. Chris Christie vetoed a bill that would ban gestation crates for pigs in New Jersey, but animal rights activists argue crates are cruel and say the crates limit the space for the sow to turn around.

Cher spoke out on Twitter, saying, "Iowa farmers, why must you torture pregnant pigs? you put them in crates and lock 'em down so they can't move. C. Christie, you're despicable bully. Forget potus."

Although New Jersey has fewer hogs in the state then Iowa does, Gov. Branstad thinks Christie did the right thing with his veto.

"I can't understand why a group that calls itself the Humane Society would be against saving baby pigs," said Branstad.
