WATERLOO (KWWL) -

KWWL has received several calls from parents in the Waterloo school system claiming their children didn't receive school lunch today at Lincoln Elementary.

We took those concerns to the district, which offered the following explanation:

Tara Thomas told KWWL that children at Lincoln Elementary pre-order their lunch based on a several choices, and then are expected to select the same choice come lunchtime. Today, Thomas said, a number of children didn't take the option they pre-ordered.

By the end of the lunch periods, that had depleted the reserve of food to the point that fewer options were left for students.

Thomas stressed that food was available for all children, and that teachers ordered pizza from affected classes soon after.

No child was left hungry, she said.

"Some of the kids actually got two lunches, but nobody didn't get to eat," Thomas said. "It's such an exception. We never have an issue with there being enough."

About 20 students in the fifth grade were affected, Thomas said.
