Hawks trump the Tar Heels 60-55

CHAPEL HILL (KWWL) - On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Cedar Rapids native Marcus Paige and the 12th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels 60-55.

Iowa's point guard Mike Gesell hit a driving lay-up with a just over a minute left that helped the Hawkeyes hold on to their upset victory.

Iowa (6-2) was led by Gesell who had 16 points, Aaron White and Adam Woodbury also reached double figures.

Iowa led 31-29 at the half, but went through a 4 minute scoring drought late in the second half before Gesell hit his lay-up.

Paige, a Linn-Mar graduate had a 3 point attempt to tie the game but it bricked off the front of the rim. Gesell then hit two free throws to seal the win.
