DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Dubuque is one of 16 cities to be named a "Climate Action Champion" by the White House.

The announcement cited Dubuque's greenhouse gas emission reduction targets of 50 percent below 2003 levels by 2030. It also highlighted Dubuque's focus on flood risk reduction and resilience.

The White House launched the Climate Action Champions competition earlier this fall to identify and recognize local climate leaders and to provide targeted federal support to help those communities further raise their ambitions.

Minneapolis, Seattle and Knoxville, Tennessee were among the other 16 cities recognized today.
