FLOYD COUNTY (KWWL) - A Minnesota man has been given five years in prison for making threatening statements against school children in Charles City, claiming to be a member of al-Qaida.

Police arrested 48-year-old Loren Saxon of Preston, Minnesota on August 24.  Police say Saxon was heavily intoxicated while at the Best Budget Inn in Charles City, and claimed he was a member of al-Qaida and that he would shoot as many children as he could.

Online court records show 48-year-old Loren Saxon was sentenced Tuesday. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for a charge of intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

Saxon had previously been arrested in Iowa for public intoxication, as well as arrests for domestic abuse, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts, according to Iowa Courts Online.
