WATERLOO (KWWL) - There is still unrest in the Bosnian community ever since one of their own was beaten to death with a hammer.

Longtime Waterloo man Zemir Begic was brutally killed in St. Louis by four teenagers. Police say he was with his wife and two others when their car was approached.

17-year-old Robert Mitchell of St. Louis is charged with Begic's murder. At least two other teens are accused in connection to the crime.

Begic spent several years of his life in Waterloo, and a number of people in the city are expressing their concerns on social media.

Former state representative and Bosnian-American Anesa Kajtazovic knows some of Zemir Begic's cousins, but didn't know him personally. She says the news was shocking to hear.

"I mean, it's just shocking, and our community understands what it's like to struggle," said Kajtazovic. "You just never know, it feels like that could be your cousin, that could be your brother, that could be someone in your own family."

Kajtazovic added that the violence against the Bosnian community needs to be addressed.
