KALONA (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is issuing a boil advisory following a water main break in Kalona.

The DNR says the impacted area is between C and D avenues and intersects with Highway 1.

The DNR says there are around 40 homes and a motel in the area.

Those in the area should boil water for one minute and cool before using, or use  bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, or cooking.

The city began repairs Tuesday after learning of the water main break. It will disinfect and flush lines and test for bacteria.

The boil advisory will stay in place until the city collects bacteria-free water samples 24 hours apart.
