WATERLOO (AP) -

An official says a student at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo has been injured while in the school's welding lab.

College spokeswoman Kathy Flynn says the student is being treated for burns following an incident Tuesday morning.

Additional information about the injury or the student's identity is not available.

Flynn says the student was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

College safety officials are interviewing witnesses who were in the welding lab at the time of the incident. Flynn says the college is also reviewing its safety procedures, though she did not elaborate.
