IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The removal of three electric lines will reduce Burlington Street in Iowa City to one lane on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Weather permitting, the street will be closed to traffic from Madison Street to Front Street so crews can remove three overhead high-powered electric lines parallel with and adjacent to the CRANDIC railroad tracks.

This project is an extension of the University of Iowa's current Power Plant Project, and crews expect Burlington Street will reopen to by 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Front Street will be closed from 8 a.m. Tuesday to mid-morning Wednesday so the contractor can prepare for the project.

Iowa City Transit outbound stop 7080 and inbound stops 7079 and 7081 will be temporarily impacted during the closure and will not be serviced for the 7 p.m. Night Oakcrest Route.

Motorists are to take note of this work and to seek an alternate route during this time period.
