JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

A Kalona man was charged with vehicular homicide exactly a year after a crash that killed one and seriously injured another.

Jeffrey Bulechek, 28, of Kalona was charged with serious injury by vehicle and vehicular homicide by OWI. Both are felonies.

According to criminal complaints, Bulechek was heading east on 520th St. SW in Johnson County in the early hours of December 1, 2013. The complaint says he didn't yield to a vehicle driving northbound on State Highway 1.

A person in that car, Brittany Hochstetler, died as a result of her injuries. Another in the car, Brooke Miller, suffered serious injuries including brain injury, broken femurs, hearing loss and restricted eye movement.

Investigators say they tested Bulechek's blood alcohol content and determined that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Bulechek was booked in the Johnson County Jail early on Monday morning on a $65,000 bond.
