Iowa State falls, UNI just misses out in latest AP poll

The Iowa State Cyclone men's basketball team fell seven spots, while the University of Northern Iowa men just missed the cut in the latest AP poll released today.

The Cyclones, 3-1 overall, split their two games last week, beating Alabama 84-74, but losing 63-72 to Maryland. Iowa State, who was ranked #13 last week, received 330 points in the voting. Kentucky, who is #1 in this week's poll, received 1,622 points in the voting.

The Cyclones host Lamar on Tuesday and Arkansas on Thursday in Hilton Coliseum.

The UNI Panthers have had their best start since the 1963-64 season when they started 10-0. UNI has tallied seven straight wins, concluding with Sunday's 55-50 win over Richmond at the McLeod Center.

UNI, who collected 83 points in this week's voting, has also beaten North Dakota, Stephen F. Austin, Morgan State, North Florida, Virginia Tech and Northwestern. #25 Utah received 88 points in this week's voting.

The Panthers will go for eight straight wins on Saturday when they host George Mason.
