WICHITA (KWWL) -

A crash on an interstate near Wichita injured five people, including two University of Northern Iowa professors.

Biology professors Dr. James Demastes and Theresa Spradling, along with their two children Alex and Connor Demastes, were all taken to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita on Friday morning, according to KAKE in Wichita.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, Tracee Tipton, was distracted when she reached for something and crossed the center median, colliding head-on with the southbound SUV of Demastes and Spradling.

When fire crews arrived, one of the victims was pinned, but was awake and alert they were rescued from the vehicle, according to KSN in Wichita. None of the victims received life-threatening injuries.

I-235 was shut down for around an hour while crews worked to clean up the scene.
