Landscaping group spruces up I-380

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A group of volunteers known as Eye 380 is hoping to spruce up the freeway between Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha.

Since 2008, the organization has planted flowers, tree and shrubs at the Boyson Road interchange in Hiawatha, the Kirkwood exit in Cedar Rapids, as well as two sites south of Wilson Ave. SW.

Now, they've launched their annual fundraiser to secure money to maintain the four sites, and add a fifth.

The projects are overseen by the Department of Transportation. Since they are in high-traffic areas, the maintenance of sites must be done by professional landscaping companies.

“We have received enthusiastic response for making I-380 an attractive and clean roadway through the metro area,” said Leland Freie, president of the group. “Now we need financial support from individuals and companies to build on progress already made.”

The proposed fifth site would be near 32nd St SE.

The group meets every month at Tree Forever in Marion. For questions, contact Dale Kueter at 377-2630.
