The Wartburg football team is headed to the national quarterfinals. The 5th ranked Knights used a late push to get by #13 St. Johns 21-10 on Saturday afternoon.

After both teams went scoreless in the first half, the Knights finally broke the drought with an 82 yard drive capped by a Logan Schrader pass to a wide open Taylor Jacobsmeier for a 7-0 lead midway through the 3rd quarter.

St. Johns responded on their very next drive. Nick Martin hit J.T. Ford on a 15 yard strike to cap a short drive tying the game at 7. Following a 3 and out by the Knights, the Johnnies capped their next drive with an Alexi Johnson 25 yard field goal for a 10-7 advantage early in the 4th quarter.

Wartburg battled back quickly. Brandon Domeyer scampered for 3 carries over 10 yards on the next drive. Domeyer capped that drive with a 1 yard touchdown fun for a 14-10 lead. The Knights forced and recovered a St. Johns fumble moments later. That's when Schrader drove home the dagger breaking free on a 56 yard quarterback keeper to put the game away.

Schrader's big run capped a big day on the ground for him as he rolled to 131 yards rushing. Domeyer added another 119 for Wartburg.

The Knights advance to face defending champ Wisconsin-Whitewater in the national quarterfinals.
