IOWA CITY (KWWL) - An Iowa City high school soccer coach accused of grabbing a pistol during a traffic stop, has been working in the district for four years.

Edger Arceo, 31, spent three years as an assistant soccer coach, but was promoted to girl's soccer head coach, this year, according to City High principal John Bacon.

Bacon says Arceo is also the director of the Student Advisory Center.

Police tell us it all started at the intersection of Wayne and First Avenue after Arceo failed to stop, Wednesday night.

According to the complaint, Iowa City police got a call saying Arceo was leaving his home,  allegedly driving his car drunk.

Officers say they pulled him over and immediately smelled alcohol.

The Iowa City high school girl's soccer coach allegedly did not follow commands, reached into his pocket to grab a loaded pistol.

The complaint states the officer quickly grabbed Arceo's wrist to pull it way from the handgun.

Police say the pistol had one round in the chamber and was not in a holster.

Arceo did have a valid permit for the handgun, but police tell us he was verbally abusive, had poor balance, and showed several signs of intoxication, according to the complaint.

The gun was seized and used as evidence.

Arceo also coaches youth soccer for Iowa City Alliance Soccer Club.

Arceo's future with City High is still unclear.
