IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Update: Police arrested the Iowa City High School Director of Student Advisory Center and soccer coach who they say grabbed for a pistol during a traffic stop.

Police pulled over 31-year-old Edgar Arceo on Wayne and 1st Avenue in Iowa City on Wednesday night around 11:30.

According to a criminal complaint, the man smelled like alcohol and wasn't following instructions to get out of his vehicle, and then he reached into his pocket where he had a loaded pistol.

The complaint also says that an officer had to grab Arceo's arm to get the gun from him; the officers say he was very verbally abusive towards them.

Police say his gun was not in a holster, and there was one round in the chamber.

Arceo had a valid permit for the weapon, but the gun was seized as evidence.

He was booked in the Johnson County Jail early Thursday morning; Arceo's charged with OWI, carrying weapons and interference with official acts.

Arceo is listed on the Iowa City High Schools website as the girls soccer coach and Director of the Student Advisory Center.
