Snow Slowdown: Winter weather affecting Thanksgiving travel

Posted: Updated:

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -- More than 200 flights have been canceled at airports in the northeast as a storm packing rain and snow moved up the East Coast, disrupting plans for travelers on their way to Thanksgiving celebrations.

The tracking service FlightAware.com also says thousands of flight delays are expected as snow moves into the area Wednesday afternoon.

Travelers are advised to take earlier flights, if possible.

FlightAware.com says approximately 180 flights were canceled Wednesday morning in Newark, New Jersey, and at New York's LaGuardia, Kennedy and White Plains airports.

More than a dozen flights were canceled at Philadelphia International Airport and a handful at Boston Logan Airport.

The forecast of snow is affecting regional carriers operating express flights for major airlines. They include the Delta Shuttle between Boston and LaGuardia.
