Iowa senior running back Mark Weisman has been named a finalist for the fifth-annual Burlsworth Trophy, given to the outstanding football player in America who began his career as a walk-on.

Weisman, a native of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, has rushed 182 times for 720 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He has been Iowa's leading rusher the last two seasons and leads the team this year through 11 games.

He is one of only eight Hawkeye running backs to rush for more than 2,200 yards and score more than 20 touchdowns in their career.

The other finalists are East Carolina wide receiver Justin Hardy and Mississippi State offensive guard Ben Beckwith. The winner will be announced Dec. 8 in Springdale, Arkansas.

The Hawkeyes wrap-up the regular season on Friday when they host Nebraska in Kinnick Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
