WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Hundreds of people gathered Monday night in Waterloo for an annual tradition.

The Mike and Leona Adams Thanksgiving Dinner took place for the 32nd year.

Their legacy remains in the free community dinner they started amid the farm crisis in 1982.

Along with a full turkey dinner and pumpkin pie, anyone could get a free haircut or their blood pressure checked.

But it's not just about the food, but fellowship.

"It's not just the financial need for people. some people don't have any family or friends around that they can celebrate with. so they look forward to coming and making new friends and getting to celebrate the holiday as well,"" said Julie van Daele.

Organizers estimate about 1000 dinners were served - including 350 to Meals on Wheels recipients.
