Iowa offensive lineman Brandon Scherff, has now been named a finalist for the 2014 Outland Trophy.

Scherff, a native of Denison, joins Texas defensive tackle Malcolm Brown and Auburn center Reese Dismukes on the finalist list.

Scherff, a 6-foot-5, 320-pound senior left tackle, has started all 11 games for the Hawkeyes this season. He's started 23 straight games since missing the final five games of 2012 due to injury.

“Brandon is a great leader for our football team and it is obvious to us that Brandon is enjoying his senior season,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said in a written statement. “He's playing his best football and is deserving of any and all individual honors that come his way. He is an outstanding representative of our program and one of the best and most physical offensive lineman I have been around in my career as a coach.”

Scherff is also a semifinalist for the 2014 Rotary Lombardi Award.

Three Hawkeyes have won the Outland Trophy. Calvin Jones in 1955, Alex Karras in 1957 and Robert Gallery in 2003. Mike Devlin was a semifinalist in 1992.

The 2014 Outland Trophy winner will be announced December 11 and will be presented the trophy on January 15 in Omaha, Nebraska. The trophy is given to the top college interior lineman in the country.

The 8-4 Hawkeyes host Nebraska on Friday at 11 a.m. to close the regular season.
