WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is restocking its shelves more and more with a growing demand.

The Northeast Iowa Food Banks says the Cedar Valley Food Pantry program has seen an increase of 31 percent of households served in the last fiscal year, and an increase of 14 percent in just the last three months.

In addition, the demand for other programs like the BackPack Program, Kids Cafe and the Mobile Pantry program has also increased.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank says Kids Cafe is feeding 42 percent more kids this fall compared to last. The Mobile Pantry program has increased 28 percent in the number of households served in the last year.

"Hunger in Iowa and in our communities is real," executive director of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank Barbara Prather said. "We work hard every day to help those who are hungry in Northeast Iowa and we look to eliminate the need for food assistance in our 16-county service area."

Last year the Food Bank provided a record of more than 6 million pounds of food to the hungry.
