AMES (KWWL) -

Sam Richardson made the effort, but came up 2 yards of a first down on Iowa State's final drive as the Cyclones fell to Texas Tech 34-31. Iowa State fell to 0-7 in Big 12 play with the loss.

Richardson threw for 304 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game. Aaron Wimberly added 102 yards rushing and one touchdown.

The Cyclones appeared to be headed to their first conference win this season after Wimberly's second effort gave him a 2 yard touchdown run for a 31-27 Iowa State lead early in the 4th quarter. The Red Raiders, however, responded with a 75 yard drive and the game winning touchdown with 4:07 remaining. Quarterback Pat Mahomes hit Kenny Williams on a 44 yard touchdown strike that eventually did in the Cyclones.

Mahomes passed for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns in the game.
