Ticket taker works at the UNI Dome for nearly 20 years

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - The UNI Dome in Cedar Falls saw large crowds as the High School Football State Championship games continued Friday.

Ticket Taker Marcia Van Deest has worked at the Dome for 18 years, and at 74 years old, she says she has one of the best jobs.

"Love to see the kids and the people... fun to see the kids come in with their hair done and in their tutus," Van Deest said.

She's been greeting spirited fans for nearly 20 years; asking them how their days are going, which teams they're rooting for and helping them find their seats.

However, Van Deest says, with a smile of course, that rules are rules. One of her jobs is to keep people inside the Dome once they've already scanned their ticket, and she says she's heard every excuse in the book.

"They left their dogs in the car and want to go feed them, they forgot their other pair of glasses and they need them to see the game, they want their iPhones... You name it, we've heard it."

Over the years, Van Deest has learned many familiar faces, calling them her "regulars." She says she has no plans to retire at the current time, and hopes to have several years left at the Dome.
