DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Loras College has announced it's met a goal of recording 175,000 hours of volunteer service in connection with its 175th anniversary.

Students, faculty, staff, and alumni participated over the last 19 months, recording nearly 192,000 hours of service by more than 1,400 Duhawks across the country.

In a news release, school officials say the national value for volunteer time is $22.55 per hour according to Independent Sector.

That would equate to the extended Loras College community giving $3.98 million worth of their time, talents and energy.

"The Loras College mission is as alive -- if not more alive -- today as it was 176 years ago," said Loras College President Jim Collins in the statement. "As a Catholic, liberal arts college, Loras was built on the foundation of serving others. I am beyond grateful to our students, staff and faculty for continuing to honor our mission each and every day."
