Iowa's unemployment rate is slightly down from September.

In October, it was 4.5 percent, down from 4.6 percent a month before. The national unemployment rate also fell, from 5.8 percent to 5.9 percent.

“Iowa's job market continues to steadily pick up pace,” said Teresa Wahlert, director of Iowa Workforce Development. “The state's labor force is currently at an all-time high of 1,711,600, and the total number of working Iowans is 34,800 higher than one year ago.”

That translate to about 1,000 people that found work, as total unemployment dropped to 77,700.

In the last year, Iowa added 15,000 jobs, about 1 percent. Trade and transportation, retails and wholesale sectors saw the most significant gains.
