DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The Dubuque Fighting Saints hosted Military Appreciation Night last Friday, and scored a couple of big wins.

After they beat down Waterloo 8-4, they auctioned off their special military red, white and blue jerseys to raise money for the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque.

It was a big success.

They netted $16,500, with every jersey getting at least $1,000, and the high earner grabbing $1,500.

"The people of the Tri-State area have shown great support to the Veterans Freedom Center though jersey auctions and many other initiatives," said Jim Wagner, co-founder and Director of the Veterans Freedom Center in a press release.

"Military Appreciation Night is a great event," Wagner added. "Every dime that comes into the Veterans Freedom Center goes to the veterans, and with the holidays coming up, we'll be helping a lot of people in need."
