WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC) - A Davenport man has been arrested after he approached Secret Service near the White House with a rifle, ammunition and knife in his car on Wednesday, according to several news sources.

Renae J. "R.J." Kapheim, 41, of Davenport apparently approached a Secret Service officer near the White House at around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday and told the officer "someone in Iowa told him to drive to the White House," according to Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary.

Secret Service then located his car at 16th and Constitution NW and searched it, finding a 30-30 rifle and ammunition in the trunk. They also found a 6-inch fixed-blade knife, according to NBC News.

Kapheim was arrested and charged with having an unregistered firearm. Other charges are pending.
